A Much Needed Spa Night…

There is absolutely nothing UNclassier than a grumpy grumpster.  Bad, negative attitude, bitchy even.  It’s just so not classy.  But we all get that way some days.  It’s normal, it’s natural.  We do so many things throughout our days that if we don’t take a little time to destress, it can drive us absolutely bonkers.  Some days we just need to “check out” for a while and yesterday was most definitely one of those days for me.

I’ve been handling and running so many different projects lately (ones that I’m excited about!), but between those, a hubbie, two kids, and the not-so-fun symptoms of peri-menopause, I will admit it, I was bitchy yesterday…and the day before that…and if we’re counting, the day before that too.  You get the idea.  So I decided to take a much needed break last night even though my to-do list was horrendous, I was going to do no one any good unless I decompressed and took some time for myself.  I decided to do a tech-free spa night.

There’s no fabulous pictures of my spa night because I went tech-free for the evening-no emails, no Facebook, no television.  I had a pile of fashion magazines waiting to be read (ummmm…one of them was from last November…oops).  I also had a complexion that was feeling worse for wear.  So I gave myself a DIY facial.  I removed my eye make-up and washed my face.  Then I put on a glycolic peel mask (the one from No7) and waited a little bit longer than what they initially said, ok, a lot longer, but who’s counting?  After washing it off, I put on a super hydrating mask from Nuxe (the 24hr hydrating one).  After letting that sit, I rinsed it off then went to work putting on my treatments.  I’m really loving the new L’Oreal Revitalift series-specifically the hyaluronic acid serum and the regular serum.  I used the hyaluronic one where I needed it so basically everywhere from my nose down.  The regular serum I put everywhere else.  I then topped everything off with a heavy duty shea butter cream from No7 (the one with the rose top).  I then plopped myself in my recliner with a cocktail, some chocolates and my fashion magazines.  All, in all it made for a fabulous night!

This morning I woke up to the softest skin I’ve had in a REALLY long time and I felt motivated to start tackling my to-do list again.  Sometimes we just need to step away from things for a few hours and regain ourselves back.

What do you like to do to step away and recharge?

My Favorite Things: Glowing Skin

Lately I’ve been into gorgeous glowy skin, but skin that doesn’t look like I have any foundation on, a more natural look.

Funny thing is that it takes MORE products to get a natural look than it does to get a “full” face!  Who-da-thunk-it!

I don’t normally use photos of myself for these types of things as I’m not very fond of myself in pictures (New Look Mondays are an exception as I get to “hide” behind the cool virtual hair).  🙂  But, that being said, here I am.

Now, mind you, this is straight out of my cell phone camera (Note III) and has absolutely no editing done to it other than cropping it.

Here’s a list of the products that I used (and are in order of use):

Boots No7 True Identity Foundation in Light: I love the texture of this.  It glides right over fine lines, pores, etc to give a smooth and flawless look without looking like you have foundation on.

Boots No7 Radiant Glow Concealer in Shade III:  I’ve not tried Touche-Eclat which everyone always raves about, but I have tried the Chanel version and this brand (in my opinion) is so much better than the Chanel one.  I used it to not only brighten my undereye area (didn’t sleep very well the night before-blanket hogging hubbie), but I also used it to highlight various parts of my face to enhance that glow.  Below is a picture of me with where I put the concealer.

Mary Kay Mineral Pressed Powder in Ivory II: I’m not a fan of loose powder, too messy (especially when you have a cat and 2 kids running around).  So I prefer a pressed version.  I also like the idea of mineral powder so that it becomes a part of my skin instead of just sitting on top of it, caking and making me look ancient.  This one even provides good coverage for a powder.  Those that know me know that I don’t like powder, but I love this one!

Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Strawberry Cream.  Using all of those pale ivory colors, I didn’t want to use a bronze tone on my cheeks.  I wanted that healthy flush and this soft pink is just right without going too Pepto-Bismol.

Boots Botanics Mineral Eye Color in Oasis.  I know that this is an eye shadow duo, but I LOVE to use the darker shade on top of my blush and the lighter (more gold) shade on top of my cheek bones.  It has just enough irridescence to give my skin that gorgeous glow without making me look like I got in a glitter fight nor look like a shiny mess.

You can get all of the Boots products at your local Target or on Target.com.

You can get all of the Mary Kay products HERE and they are 40% off today through Friday, February 28th!  (On this website only though!)

I LOVE RED LIPSTICK!!!

Now, I know that I am going to get a lot of flack for this from some friends…those who have known me for so long that they know I’m allergic to red lipstick (ok, so not really, but aversion to it is similar to someone with peanut allergies eating a Snickers bar). I’ve always been a gloss girl. Nice, natural colored gloss. The creamier and silkier the better.

I’ve just never found a red lipstick that I even remotely was fond of. They were two blue, too orange, too sheer, too dry, didn’t last, made me get that white gunk on the inner rims of my lips (you know you’ve had that and it sucks!). Or, if I liked everything else about it, then it ran into the fine lines around my lips (with or without a lip liner). One word would describe red lipstick for me…YUCK!

That is…until now!

One of my favorite make-up companies, Boots No7, has partnered with Poppy King, the goddess of lipstick and in that collaboration came the existence of the PERFECT red lipstick aptly named “History”, as in the rest of my red lipsticks are history! This is the perfect blend of shine yet matte, that oh-so-gorgeous satin sheen. It’s ever-so-slightly warm in tone to flatter the skin, but doesn’t look orange. And, my favorite part, IT STAYS!!! The creamy texture stays that way for hours and upon reapplying, doesn’t cake, flake or smudge. This girl is truly a red lipstick convert!

In fact, I’m going to be rocking my red lips tonight at the Cocktails with Style event at Westfield Mission Valley. There’s gonna be photos there, so when I get the pics back from the event, I’ll post me with my crimson smackers!
