Throwback Thursday: Sophia Loren

When I was hunting through Google for an iconic image to use for today’s Throwback Thursday feature, I didn’t really know what I wanted to focus on.  But when I saw this photo, I immediately knew what to do!

So in honor of the first day of spring, I bring you the stunning Sophia Loren.

With that colorful scarf and sexy make-up, how could I NOT have chosen her!

I loved the bronzed skin, sultry cat eye and pastel pink glossy lip.

To recreate this look at home, use MK Bronzing Powder to contour your cheekbones and add a light dusting all over to look like you just got back from your winter holiday in Antigua.

Use MK Gel Eyeliner in Jet Black to create that gorgeous cat eye and then smudge a bit on your lid with your finger to get the sultry with the sexy.

Top the look off with a healthy dose of MK Nourishine Plus Lip Gloss in Pink Parfait to get that voluptuous shine and pastel pink goodiness.

Throwback Thursday: Girl With a Pearl Earring

I have to start this post off with a huge WOW!!!  Yesterday I showed a photo of a shoot/project that I helped with and it has gotten a FABULOUS response across my various social media platforms.  So, THANK YOU!!!

Today, for Throwback Thursday I am going to show you photo number two from the shoot.

For those who don’t know, the shoot was a play on famous portraits and since I am indeed a make-up artist, they all have a little make-up inspired twist to them.

Audrey Hepburn from yesterday had a make-up brush in her hand instead of the cigarette.

And so, without further ado, here is today’s!

Not too shabby!  I still like yesterday’s photo of myself better, but still…it is kinda cool looking!

Here’s what the original portrait looked like:

The focus on it all is of course the absolutely beautiful and flawless skin.  That perfect porcelain complexion that looks like she has nothing on.

Here’s a list of what I used:

Boots No7 True Identity Foundation

Boots No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation

Boots No7 Radiant Glow Concealer

MK Mineral Pressed Powder

You can purchase all of the Boots products at your local Target or on

You can purchase the MK powder HERE.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the last photo in the series.  It’s perfect for “Fun Friday”!

Throwback Thursday: Grace Kelly

This week’s Throwback Thursday is the epitomy of class.  And the thing about a classy lady with a classy look is that it NEVER goes out of style.

That’s right!  The ever-fashionable Grace Kelly!

Always classy, always put-together.  The key to her look is a strong lip, but not an “in-your-face” lip.  So instead of a super bright red, she favored more of a plummish red (if that can be considered a color-Pantone take note!)  😉

Also, she always had a flawless complexion.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photograph of her without her impeccable skin.

Recreate her look at home with:

MK Cream Lipstick in Apple Berry (that plummish red I was talking about)

MK Lip Liner in Soft Blush (to keep that nice crisp line)

MK Translucent Powder (to set that flawless foundation, make it stay all day and to keep away any shine)

Order these HERE.

Throwback Thursday: Catherine Deneuve

It seems like no matter where you look these days, the strong brow is everywhere. On every runway, in every magazine, at every fancy event. Model Cara Delevingne shows up in all three of those and her brows are to-die-for.

But another famous jetsetter sported strong brows decades ago (even before Brooke Shields!). The uber-fabulous, super sexy, French actress, Catherine Deneuve.

I mean, come on! Take a look at those enviable brows! Framing those sexy, sultry smoky eyes that look like she wore it last night and simply rolled out of bed this morning super fabulous (of course, knowing the French and their beauty routines, we KNOW that’s not true!). Topping the whole look off with a tawny nude lipstick without a hint of gloss makes this look one that can be pulled off day or night. Bed-head-hair optional, but highly recommended.

To get this look at home try:

MK Brow Definer Pencil in Brunette ($10)
MK Brow Gel ($10) BTW-The BEST brow gel I have EVER used!!!
And if your brows are less-than-stellar (such as mine)…
MK Lash & Brow Building Serum ($38)

Top it off with:
MK Gel Eyeliner in Jet Black ($18)
MK Creme Lipstick in Sheer Blush ($15)

You can purchase all of these HERE.

Throwback Thursday-Cleopatra

Throwback Thursday is going to be a weekly addition to Classy on a Budget showcasing a famous make-up look in history and this week we are showcasing one of the most identifiable looks ever…the uber-fabulous Elizabeth Taylor from Cleopatra.

Whenever anyone thinks of Cleopatra, they immediately think of Elizabeth Taylor and those iconic cobalt blue cat eyes.

While those eyes would be a bit much now-a-days, the cobalt trend is definitely on fire right now.  The illustrious shade of blue can be seen everywhere from shoes, handbags, fashion and also on the eyes.  In fact, both Marc by Marc Jacobs and Badgley Mischka sent models down their Spring 2014 runways in various states of blue eyes.

The trick to keeping it real rather than runway (or Cleopatra for that matter) is to keep the blue eye shadow sheer.  Add warm peach cheeks and pale coral lips (a la Elizabeth Taylor) and you have a look just dying to be paired with a gorgeous spring dress like these from Erin Fetherston.

To get the look at home, try:

MK Mineral Eye color in Peacock Blue ($7.00)
MK Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush ($12.00)
MK Nourishine Plus Lip Gloss in Au Naturel ($14.00)
